Autosuggestion

The Medium for influencing the subconscious mind.

According to Napoleon Hill’s Think & Grow Rich, this is the third step toward riches.

Autosuggestion is another way of saying self-suggestion.  In this chapter Hill  gives several examples as to why we need to disconnect our black and white view of how things are and come to terms with our subconscious.  He creates the analogy: “the subconscious mind resembling a fertile  garden spot, in which weeds will grow in abundance if the seeds of more desirable crops are not sown therein.  Autosuggestion is the agency of control through which an individual may voluntarily feed his subconscious mind on thoughts of a creative nature, or, by neglect, permit thoughts of a destructive nature to find their way into this rich garden of the mind.”

So the purpose of the twice a day say-out-loud-what-you-want-in-life exercise is to suggest to your subconscious to start creating new habits in your life that will fulfill these goals.

Here’s a visual I’ve come up with to help cement this idea of autosuggestion…..

autosuggestion photobomb

You may be wondering what this has to do with autosuggestion? Well, I have a skill for “reaching” and here it is. haha. Imagine you’re the horse, focused on getting to a greener patch of grass and not paying much attention to your surroundings. Then-bam- you’re stuck in a fence.  Your subconscious pops in and is like- HA!- I kept mooing at you to moooove in a different direction. But as a focused horse  you ignored your subconscious and got yourself in a jam.

So here you have it. This is an example of a poorly planted subconscious garden.  Plant the right seeds to move in the right direction and avoid having your subconscious pop up and laugh at you… well at least in a bad way.

Back to the chapter…

Summary of Instructions

FIRST. Go into some quiet spot where you will not be disturbed or interrupted, close your eyes, and repeat aloud the written statement of the amount of money you intend to accumulate, the time limit for its accumulation, and a description of the service or merchandise you intend to give in return for the money,.  As your carry out these instructions, see yourself already in possession of the money.

SECOND. Repeat this program night and morning until you can see in your imagination the money you intend to accumulate.

THIRD. Place a written copy of your statement where you can see it night and morning, and read it just before retiring and upon arising until it has been mesmerizer  Remember, as you carry out these instructions, that you are applying the principle of autosuggestion, for the purpose of giving orders to your subconscious mind.

And on this note…

Good night and Love Life.

Faith

Visualization of, and belief in, attainment of desire.

The second step towards riches: Faith

Faith is something that can be taught.  The most common use of faith is in religion.  In current times, the miracles of most religions are so far in the past, that all that is left are lessons and recycled faith.  In context with Think & Grow Rich, this 100% attitude in believing in something that isn’t 100% tangible and factual is what faith is all about.  We have to cultivate faith in our goals and abilities. Desire brought us to this step, now its up to us the build upon that desire and have faith that our goals will come to fruition.

HOW TO DEVELOP FAITH

Repetition of affirmation of orders to your subconscious mind is the only known method of voluntary development of the emotion of faith.”

When faith is blended with the vibration of thought, the subconscious mind instantly picks up the vibration, translates it into its spiritual equivalent, and transmits it to Infinite Intelligence  as in the case of prayer.”

A couple of posts ago I quoted this chapter’s “Self- Confidence Formula”

For convenience, here it is again 🙂

Self Confidence Formula

FIRST. I know that I have the ability to achieve the object of my definite purpose in life.  Therefore, I demand of myself persistence  continuous action toward its attainment, and I here and now promise to render such action.

SECOND. I realize the dominating thoughts of my mind will eventually reproduce themselves in outward, physical action, and gradually transform themselves into physical reality. Therefore, I will concentrate my thoughts for thirty minutes daily upon the task of thinking of the person I intend to become, therby creating in my mind a clear mental picture of that person.

THIRD. I know through the principle of autosuggestion, any desire that I persistently hold in my mind will eventually seek expression through some practical means of attaining the object back of it.  Therefore, I will devote ten minutes daily to demanding of myself the development of self-confidence.

FOURTH. I have clearly written down a description of my definite chief aim in life, and I will never stop trying until I shall have development of self-confidence.

FIFTH. I fully realize that no wealth or position can long endure, unless built upon truth and justice.  Therefore, I will engage in no transaction which does not benefit all whom it affects.  I will succeed by attracting to myself the forces I wish to use, and the cooperation of other people. I will induce others to serve me because of my willingness to serve others.  I will eliminate hatred, envy, jealousy, selfishness, and cynicism, by developing love for all humanity, because I know that a negative attitude toward others can never bring me success. I will cause others to believe in me, because I will believe in them, and in myself.

Good stuff!!

With that said, on daily task list is now:

1) Twice daily repeat my goals, what I will give in return, and means of achieving those goals- out loud.

2) Visualize daily for about 30 minutes the type of person I want to be.

3) Devote 10 minutes daily to cultivating self confidence.

Update: Yesterday I met with a home owner and have a contract set up to close in a month. Fingers crossed this can be a great win-win real estate investment transaction.

If you think you are beaten, you are,

If you think you dare not, you don’t

If you like to win, but you think you can’t

It is almost certain you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost

For out of the world we find,

SUccess begins with a fellow’s will–

It’s all in the state of mind.

If you think your are outclassed, you are,

You’ve got to think high to rise,

You’ve got to be sure of yourself before

You can ever win a prize.

Life’s battles don’t always go

To the stronger or faster man,

But soon or late the man who wins

Is the man WHO THINKS HE CAN!

Desire

The starting point of all achievement!

Chapter one of Think & Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill goes into desire and how it’s necessary for success. Desire usually entails some type of direct goal in which we are trying to reach. Desire motivates us and without desire we could potentially stop short of our goals.

The method by which desire for riches can be transmuted into its financial equivalent consists of six definite, practical steps, viz:
FIRST. Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire. Its is not sufficient merely to say “I want plenty of money.” Be definite as to the amount. (There is a psychological reason for definiteness which will be described in a subsequent chapter.)
SECOND. Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire. (There is no such reality as “something for nothing.”)
THIRD. Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.
FOURTH. Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.
FIFTH. Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.
SIXTH. Read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning. As you read, see and feel and believe yourself already in possession of the money.

SO, with that said, a bit of background information. Currently I owe $7,000 on a car, $10,000 in credit cards. On the flip side I have about $1,000 in the bank and $3,000 in a 401k meaning I’m negative $13,000 as of today. Why am I sharing this? Well, why not. This is going to be an experiment with self-help and ambition. Honestly, I’d be happy with nothing to my name but love and a place to sleep. However, there is a lot of good that can be done with money and if you can help yourself out financially you can help others.
If you’re in the same place, and wanting to do more for the world then feel free to join me on this Think & Grow Rich Journey! 🙂

Now…to start small? or aim big? Desire the cha-ching big money bling bling? or something more modest??

Well, it’s an experiment after all…

1) I desire $100,000.00 us dollars
2) I intend to give time and 10% of profits to charity.
3) I will achieve this goal by 07/07/14
4) I plan to achieve this goal by means of real estate investments and blogging.

Self-Help Challenge

How many self help books are out there?

Well- My plan is to find out!

More specifically, I am going to challenge myself to a year of reading AND implementing self help books. One by one, I will literally live out the advice, suggestions, and document how it affects my life.

The first book on this journey:
Think & Grow Rich
by Napoleon Hill

“Think and Grow Rich is a 1937 motivational personal development and self-help book by Napoleon Hill and inspired by a suggestion from Scottish-American businessman Andrew Carnegie.” Wikipedia

Think & Grow Rich

This book has come up several times in the past few years and I finally buckled down and bought the book. I’m about a few chapters in but I am going to start over for the sake of this project.

Wish me luck!!

As always, hope you’re loving life 😉

Self-Confidence Formula

Recently, I started reading Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.  After several mentions of the book, it presented it self in a manner in which I couldn’t refuse.  So with out further ado- a quote from the book:
